James R. McKown is the Executive Vice President of Product Operations of Vivius, and the founder of its subsidiary, Recovery Data Connect, L.L.C. Mr. McKown invented and patented Vivius’ proprietary Matching System, and served as its founding President and CEO. Prior to founding RDC, Mr. McKown practiced law for 17 years. As a proprietary partner at Spencer Fane Britt & Browne, L.L.P., one of the largest firms in Missouri, McKown headed the firm’s Products Liability practice group, and Mr. McKown served as national asbestos litigation coordinating counsel for several publicly traded companies. Mr. McKown’s legal practice was often the highest grossing practice within the firm. Prior to joining Spencer Fane, Mr. McKown practiced law at Baker Botts L.L.P. where his practice was focused on litigation, including personal injury defense. While in private practice, Mr. McKown earned an AV rating in the Martindale-Hubbell rating system for attorneys deemed by their peers as displaying very high to preeminent legal abilities and very high ethical standards.
Mr. McKown is a frequent speaker on legal issues and participated on panel discussions with subject matter experts, including those directly related to health insurance subrogation and tort litigation. Mr. McKown has published multiple articles on personal injury litigation and other legal matters.
Mr. McKown received his Juris Doctor from the University of Kansas School of Law where he served as Associate Editor of the Law Review and was on the National Moot Court Team. Mr. McKown received his Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College with a double major in Economics and Government in the departmental honors program.
